Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is hiring Associate and Mid-Level Weights and Mass Properties Engineers in Tukwila, WA! This position will support Mobility and Surveillance (M&S) Programs for commercial derivative aircraft for US and foreign military customers. 

As a Weights and Mass Properties Engineer for BDS Flight Systems Capability in the greater Seattle area, you will have the opportunity to work across the broad spectrum of the Weights Engineering field to include: Weight Control, Airplane Level Weight and Loadability, Weight and Balance Manuals, Loading Schedules, Mass Properties, Delivery Operations and Flight Test Support. This position requires an individual with strong analytical and communication skills , who is comfortable working across different organizations. 

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Associate and Mid-Level Level Mass & Weight Properties Engineers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Weight control and prediction activities to ensure airplane level Mass Properties are maintained within limits and support weight efficient designs for programs, upgrades, and change activity. 

  • Airplane level weight and loadability management to ensure favorable loading characteristics over the life of the fleet.

  • Manage weight and balance manuals for production airplanes and upgrade programs.  Develop loading schedules and curtailments to operate the airplane within certified capability. 

  • Develops current and forecast weight, balance and mass properties data

  • Defines weight, balance and mass properties related design requirements

  • Participates in developing customer specification commitments

  • Provides vehicle or system configuration guidance

  • Leads weight control efforts in concert with mission performance optimization. Estimates, calculates and measures and verifies mass, weight, stiffness and inertias of components, assemblies and completed vehicles or systems

  • Develops and maintains weight, balance and mass properties accounting systems and generates weight and balance reports

  • Creates and implements new processes and tools to facilitate improved design and analysis capabilities

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience): 

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 2+ years of engineering experience or a Masters’ degree

  • 2+ years of experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (i.e., CAD/3D packages (UG/NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, CREO, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in aerospace engineering or mechanical engineering

  • Experience in Weights and Mass Properties engineering

  • Experience in product development and/or product design

  • Experience using a mass properties database to track weight, center of gravity, and inertia

  • Aerospace knowledge of fixed wing aircraft in key subject areas (Airframe, Avionics, Propulsion, Hydraulics, etc.)

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2): Bachelor's degree and typically 2 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Mid-Level (Level 3): Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Summary pay range (Associate - Level 2): $81,600 - $110,400 Summary pay range (Mid-Level - Level 3): $100,300 - $135,700
