Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team in Mesa, AZ, Charleston, SC, Hazelwood, MO, St. Charles, MO, Berkeley, MO, Houston, TX or Plano, TX.

The successful candidate will use systems engineering disciplines associated with model-based systems engineering as the thinking paradigm for to create “right-sized” and focused business architecture to support specific efforts. The candidate will also engage with project/program management as needed to complement tradition PMO best practices used for non-product development efforts to include technical insights tied to risk management, configuration control, requirements, etc.

Initial activities will be in the use of these SE disciplines to aid continued improvement in SC Data Governance practices at an enterprise level, using current “forcing functions” to drive out needed business and IT opportunities for improvement and to mitigate risk found in cross-functional/cross-BU end to end objectives.  This can include the creation of right-sized and limited business architecture. In time, these separate efforts may derive opportunity to refactor and reuse “common” architecture, though at this time it is a distant priority. Activities will also include opportunity to embed learning moments for ideas organizations need to embrace to improve “data literacy” and build general intuition about the digital model-based paradigm. This paradigm is a creative disruption for Boeing.  Traditionally, Boeing has emphasized “process” as the primary way to understand the business and deferred other insights (e.g., information and data) into the IT space of architecture. This is changing to make viewpoints about information and data as required primary views to complement value steam and business process definition views. As opportunity permits, the candidate will prepare briefings to management, sometimes including executive leadership within the enterprise SC Business Transformation organization and to forums consisting of cross-BU/cross-enterprise Function leadership.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and participate in enterprise SC business transformation objectives.
  • Evaluates customer and /operational needs to define and coordinate activities often needed to orchestrate numerous business organizations (cross-BU and cross-enterprise function) and efforts within/across them.
  • Develops the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, risk, issues, opportunity management and readiness assessment processes for business & IT solutions.
  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues.
  • Performs various right-sized business architecture activity, including viewpoints of integration with IT architecture.
  • Performs analyses to aid organization and project leadership in understanding business requirements and their trace back to business strategy, motivation, structure, information products, operational behaviors, (e.g., processes, roles, metrics, information state, etc.)
  • Performs analyses to improve common understanding between “the business” and IT for solutions needing automation, including alternate and preferred configurations to ensure success.
