Betterment is a leading, technology-driven financial services company that offers investing and retirement solutions for retail investors and investment advisors as well as financial wellness solutions, including a 401(k) for small and medium-sized businesses. Our team is passionate about our mission: making people’s lives better. We’re headquartered in NYC, and offer hybrid NY-based (three days/ week in-office) and select, non-NY-based remote positions.

We are seeking a strong technologist and organizational leader to lead the engineering teams that build and maintain our retail investing and cash products. As Betterment’s Senior Director of Investor Engineering, you will take reporting-line responsibility for the 5 squads who are responsible for building the applications that are the foundation for all of Betterment’s customers. The ideal candidate has a strong background in building and leading organizations centered around delivering products in a highly visible, Customer-centric, Product and Marketing driven organization.

You will join us at an exciting time for our product investment, as the high-performing teams work to take the stress out of investing with automation.

This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we've reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.

 New York City: $275,000 - $290,000

  • Experience designing, growing and maturing an organization to meet the needs of the business.
  • The ability to operate at multiple levels of responsibility and the willingness to do so when necessary.
