AT&T has an opening for an Architecture Engineer (C&T) to support our National Security Segment.

The job duties of the Architecture Engineer (C&T) are as follows:                                                                                                        

  • Installs, configures, and supports an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), internet network, intranet and internet and other data communications systems or a segment of a network system. Maintains network hardware and software. Monitors the network to ensure network availability to all system users and performs necessary maintenance to support network availability. May supervise other network-support and client-server specialists and plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures. Oversees network control centers. Provides support to projects that involve networks. Evaluates new network technologies and makes recommendations to project managers regarding the integration of these technologies into the existing network. Plans new network configurations and integration into existing networks to maintain optimal performance.
  • Ensures that plans for hardware and communications are adequate. Develops and implements methodologies for analysis, installation, and support of voice communications systems. Provides support in the translation of business requirements into telecommunications (e.g., LAN, Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), WAN, voice and video) requirements, designs, and orders.
  • Diagnoses hardware and software problems and replaces defective components. Performs data backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Maintains and administers computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
  • Monitors the performance of computer systems and networks.
  • Performs routine network startup and shutdown procedures and maintains control records.
  • Configures and tests hardware, networking software, and operating system software.
  • Prepares technical proposals for presentation to the customer’s engineering review boards for adding new technologies to the network.
  • Performs a full range of upgrades in accordance with existing network architecture.
  • Reviews user requests for upgrades or additions to the network to assess impact on network performance.
  • Performs long-term Operations and Maintenance activities to include tier 3 troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Utilizes complex network analysis tools to identify and correct problems in the network.
  • Prepares troubleshooting procedures for restoring the network to optimal performance levels.
  • Provides fault management for the network and supports performance management functions.
  • Responds to, isolates, and resolves network troubles. Monitors alarms and alerts to identify network elements causing network degradation or failure.
  • Maintains logs and records associated with reported problems or situations.
  • Executes reporting functions and data input associated with network management.
  • Monitors the security posture of the network and reports suspected violations to designated authority.
  • Coordinates with the configuration management and implementation teams.
  • Performs operator-level maintenance on components for network management systems.
  • Analyzes network characteristics (e.g., traffic, connect time, transmission speeds, packet sizes, and throughput); recommends procurement, removals, and modifications to network components.
  • Optimizes network topologies and site configurations. Plans installations, transitions, and cutovers of network components and capabilities.
  • Coordinates requirements with users and suppliers.
  • Organizes and directs network installations on site surveys.
  • Assesses and documents current site network configuration and user requirements.
  • Maintains operating systems, communications software, database packages, compilers, assemblers, and utility programs.
  • Applies software, hardware, and standards information technology skills in the analysis, specification, development, integration, and acquisition of open systems for Information Management (IM) applications.
  • Ensures these systems and applications are compliant with standards for open systems architectures, reference models, and profiles of standards - such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Open Systems Environment (OSE) reference model - as they apply to the implementation and specification of IM solutions on the application platform, across the application program interface (API), and the external environment/software application.
  • Evaluates and recommends Commercial of the Shelf (COTS) applications and methodologies that can be acquired to provide interoperable, portable, and scalable information technology solutions.
  • Engineers, supports, and troubleshoot serial and IP command and telemetry data systems involving unique serial-to-packet multiplexors and high availability IP networks.
  • Work to be performed at a customer in Springfield, VA.

Required Clearance: TS/SCI with polygraph. (#ts/sci) (#polygraph)

Required Qualifications: Candidate must have 10 years of experience that can be a combination of work history and education. This equates to a Doctorate and 3 years, master’s and 4 years, bachelor’s and 6 years, associates and 8 years or HS diploma and 10 years. Additional required qualifications include: 

  • Must be compliant with DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level 2 (Security+ CE).
  • Experience specific to network engineering to include tier 3 or higher network operations and/or network design and implementation.
  • Prior responsibility for production network hardware configurations for Cisco, Brocade, and/or Juniper.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and troubleshooting standard routing protocols in a production network, such as OSPF or BGP.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and troubleshooting standard switching and trunking protocols in a production network, such as VLANs, 802.1q, and port-channels.
  • Work to be performed at a customer in Springfield, VA.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Network engineering and design experience specific to Campus Area and Local Area Networks (CAN/LAN) supporting Serial and IP command and telemetry systems. Experience should include application of industry standards, developing configurations, and integration of solutions into production environments.
  • Network engineering and design experience with serial communications systems employing RS-232/RS-530/TIA/EIA 422
  • Detailed knowledge of routing and switching protocols and the ability to demonstrate knowledge through briefings and documentation. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent knowledge.
  • Initiative and disciplined to work unsupervised as part of a network engineering team. Experience establishing process, developing documents, and organizing repositories a plus.
