Senior Infrastructure Engineer II – Global Infrastructure – Mainframe & Datacenter Infrastructure

In this role you will assist with the engineering and implementation of critical American Express mainframe infrastructure, database and applications in conjunction with fixing, tuning and debugging of Mainframe Operating system, storage and system level components within the z/OS mainframe platform. You will also assist the Mainframe organization in crafting new support capabilities and modernization of our Mainframe Products and capabilities to help American Express stand behind our members. You will report directly to the Engineering Director – Mainframe and Datacenter Infrastructure

Responsibilities

• Assist with engineering of large/complex projects with a variety of components and integration points
• Collaborate with business and vendor partners to better understand their objectives, technology landscape and how to identify and resolve complex problems/issues.
• Work with Infrastructure and Application Engineers/Architects to exploit modern mainframe technologies such as zCX, zOWE, Java, Encryption, Sysplex, Hybrid Cloud, High Availability, Active/Active, Replication (GDPS, GDDR, SRDF).
• Partner with Engineers and Architects to define solution requirements and assist with implementation.
• Assist with infrastructure performance and security assessments.
• Assist with internal analysis and support to ensure proper resolution and/or customer concern during outages or periods of degraded system performance.
• Participate in brainstorming and discovery exercises that lead to new technologies based on research, proof of concept efforts and independent investigation.
• Share expertise to help team members overcome technology problems during production outages and solution delivery.
• Ensure compliance with technology, architectural, regulatory, and strategic standards, policies, and procedures.
• Actively modernizes platforms and applications using current agile practices (dev/ops)

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or Computer Science Engineering, or related field is preferred.
• 10+years engineering experience in a complex mainframe environment in the Financial Services industry
• Experience with design and implementation of Mainframe Operating system, database, storage, network & infrastructure systems.
• Experience in testing and implementation of software releases, monitoring tools.
• Experience with mainframe infrastructure, Storage, Networking, Database components, z-platform and z/OS technologies hardware and operating systems, application development and control of mainframe architecture, middleware and tooling.
• Knowledge and experience with modern mainframe technologies (zCX, zOWE, IZPCA, Encryption, Sysplex, Hybrid Cloud, High Availability, Active/Active and Mainframe Networking).
• Experience in Storage/Software products: DFSMS, DFSMSHSM, DFSMSDSS, IBM Utilities and replication (Metro Mirror and Global Mirror)
• Experience with in-depth problem solving, analytical analysis, reporting and the ability to articulate and present to leaders and key partners.
• Experience and exposure to zLinux is a plus.
• Strong industry knowledge of the newest technologies, domain expertise and its relevance to the American Express environment
• Ability to lead, manage, influence, collaborate and drive vendor direction to deliver innovated solutions that are conducive to the team and American Express
