Where we need help

We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer who will be an integral part of sharing the Allbirds mission of doing better things in a better way. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a small but impactful team that is responsible for the entire Web Experience. You’ll be creating and extending our component library to build our foundations as well as creating beautiful, new immersive experiences to support our ever-evolving new product lines and sustainability initiatives. As a senior engineer on the team we’d look to you to help shape our future direction by looking for the right opportunities to evolve our technology stack in order to give the best possible experience for our customers.

What does the job entail?

• Build visually stunning digital experiences that inspire our customers and the world to think in a better way
• Evaluate & define improvements to the existing infrastructure, performance, and user experience
• Lifts the skills and expertise of more junior engineers through direct mentorship and coaching
• Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering to deliver world-class user experiences
• Clearly understand how projects relate to business priorities and help reinforce that with the rest of the team

What kind of person are we looking for?

• Expertise in designing and architecting front end components to create high-quality user experiences. You execute to pixel perfection and are able to build stunning, polished user interfaces. 
• Drives technical excellence in our systems and holds team to a very high-quality standard
• Lifts the skills and expertise of more junior engineers through direct mentorship and coaching
• Embraces ambiguity as an opportunity to collaborate and be creative to solve business and technology problems

More practical skills needed:

• 8+ years of industry experience
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent
• Strong Javascript skills with experience in modern tools like React/Redux, Webpack, Node.js, NPM
• Expert in modern CSS constructs, cross-browser compatibility, and responsive design principles 
• Expert in optimizing web performance and understanding impacts to Core Web Vitals metrics
• Experience writing and maintaining unit tests to build maintainable and flexible code
• Experience with A/B Testing
• eCommerce / Shopify experience a plus
