Alert Innovation, now powered by Walmart, is a fast-growing venture on a mission to reinvent retail through robotics. We’ve partnered with Walmart to develop our Alphabot® technology, which is currently being deployed at stores throughout North America.

The Electrical Engineer III will help us develop and support our state-of-the-art robotic inventory management system. The job entails designing complex power distribution and control cabinets, cable management systems, and researching and guiding the team to ideal electrical component selections.  We need manufacturable, modular, and scalable designs that minimize the work required for each new installation, so we can keep up with customer demands.  A strong technical background is required, but so is a willingness to rapidly grow and develop new skills in a team-centric environment.

The  Electrical Engineer III will work closely with Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering Disciplines to define design requirements, develop concepts, complete designs and verification, transition designs to production, troubleshoots with follow up corrective actions, documentation and support to fielded products.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON:

  • Using commercial, off-the-shelf components help design the power and control systems for the world’s highest throughput automated picking, storage and retrieval system.
  • Prove by calculation and empirical measurement that designs meet intended function.
  • Review and update design documentation using AutoCAD Electrical and bills of materials using our product lifecycle management tool.
  • Build prototypes and test fixtures to prove the functionality of new control components and algorithms.
  • Participate in cross-functional activities to design, support, and debug from concept to production and deployment.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Knowledge and experience designing and generating electrical documentation, schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, mechanical drawings, test procedures for electric panels with PLCs, electrical and safety components.
  • Strong knowledge on AutoCAD and AutoCAD electrical. 
  • Interface with internal and external teams to develop electrical documentation for wiring and installation of equipment at 3rd party manufacturing facilities and on installation sites.
  • Comfortable with common electrical test equipment (DVMs, oscilloscopes, function generators, etc).
  • Must be willing and able to travel within the USA and occasionally internationally (20%-30% travel may be required)
  • Familiar with product change management and impact of change.
  • A love of making things to meet high personal standards.
  • Self-motivated and able to work through ambiguity.
  • Willingness to learn and grow as well as share knowledge.
  • Detail oriented; willing and capable of documenting before designing.
  • Ability to support or lead project teams as circumstances require.
  • Works successfully in a collaborative team environment and constructively influences team decisions
  • Possesses business acumen, team facilitation skills, flexibility, independent thinking and responsibility for execution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, able to communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • Experienced working in a cross functional team environment, including both technical and non-technical interaction
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering with 5-7 Years or M.S. in Electrical Engineering with 3-5 Years of relevant professional experience.

DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE (NOT REQUIRED):

  • Experience designing custom cables and harnesses.
  • Familiar with the installation of conduit, cables trays and other cable management systems.
  • Familiar with formal root cause analysis methods, 8D, 5 why, etc.
  • Experience designing electrical systems for machines, capital equipment, facilities, or commercial / industrial structures.
  • Prefer knowledge of relevant domestic and international regulations (NFPA70, 79, UL508A, IEC 60204-1, CE and CSA).
  • Automation experience is valued but not required.
