Agility Robotics

Director of Mechanical Engineering

Remote
Description

Agility Robotics is a pioneer. Our robot, Digit, is the first to be sold into workplaces across the globe. Our team is differentiated by its expertise in imagining, engineering, and delivering robots with advanced mobility, dexterity, intelligence, and efficiency -- robots specifically designed to work alongside people, in spaces built for people. Every day, we break through engineering challenges and invent new solutions and capabilities that will one day make robots commonplace and approachable. This work is our passion and our responsibility: our mission is to make businesses more productive and people’s lives more fulfilling.

About the Team:

Our mechanical engineering team is agile and has grown rapidly, and we are looking for a talented engineering leader to join us. We are responsible for delivering advanced and reliable designs that meet a complex set of requirements to our customers, including software developers, applications engineers, manufacturing engineers and ultimately to fleet deployment managers. We work as a group to develop new technologies, engineer new products, and refine/maintain existing designs. The team is composed of engineers from many backgrounds and levels of experience. We are organized in small groups, each responsible for high-level subsystems including actuators, torso, limbs, end effectors and battery modules. We look for anyone who has demonstrated excellence, creativity and passion for their work and who enjoys collaborating with and supporting others.

About The Role:

We are currently designing the next generation of Digit for commercial scale. Highly reliable and robust designs are critical to successful deployment of our robots in large quantities. Digit works in demanding environments, performing highly repetitive and heavily loaded tasks. This individual will work directly for the Hardware Engineering Vice President and will be responsible for managing, growing and inspiring a talented team of mechanical design engineers. The Director will work closely with their team to understand the unique requirements for our products and play a key role in ensuring that we have robot designs that are robust and production-ready.

About the work:

  • Develop processes, policies, and procedures for the Mechanical Engineering Department that help speed the development and manufacture of high-quality hardware products.
  • Contribute foundational design and technical oversight across hardware products.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, management, product, and related departments as necessary to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and demand for engineering products and services
  • Ensure reliability, manufacturability, and standards compliance are designed into all hardware products
  • Closely integrate with the manufacturing team to establish handoff processes and troubleshoot service issues
  • Continue to staff the team with top talent, whether that be new hires, contractors or design firms as needed

About you:

  • A high-performer with outstanding communication skills and deep respect and caring for others
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent, minimum requirement)
  • Previously an individual contributor, at the principal mechanical engineering level, in developing and leading complex robotics or electromechanical products for volume production
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and team development
  • Ability to be on-site at Agility’s design facility as needed (minimum 4 days per month and as needed to support design activities, reviews, prototype testing, etc.)

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Robotics experience and leadership in a robotics organization
  • Advanced degree in engineering or science or robotics
  • Jira/Confluence experience
  • PLM and PDM experience

Benefits

  • Competitive Compensation Package
  • 100% Company Paid Disability, Life, Health, Dental & Vision Insurance (for AR employees)
  • Employer Matched Retirement Plan
  • Five Weeks of Paid Time Off Annually
  • Paid Parental Leave
  • Employee Referral Bonus Program
  • Relocation Assistance (for certain roles)
  • Stock Options (for certain roles)
  • A culture that encourages flexible work schedules
  • A culture that embraces individuality and authenticity
