Staff Software Engineer - Data Integrations

About the role

The data integrations team plays a critical role in this mission by writing code that processes customer-provided data making it available to the Afresh Platform. This is a key step in onboarding customers and ensuring we are optimally leveraging the data they provide us on an ongoing basis.

• Write production code to implement fast, reliable, scalable data pipelines in SQL (dbt or sparksql) and Python (pyspark) to process billions of historical data points collected from tens of thousands of retail stores across the US.
• Build, scale, and deploy our ETL pipelines that power our recommendation engine and ordering system.
• Work closely with Afresh internal stakeholders, solution architects, and our customers to understand how to transform customer data, define business logic and ensure data quality.
• Independently analyze and find issues in the data and work with internal stakeholders to either clearly communicate high-priority issues to the customer or find novel workarounds to extract the signal we need from customer data.
• Support more junior engineers in their technical development and be an escalation point for complex, technically challenging, or urgent tasks.
• Identify and implement quick turnaround projects that will immediately reduce toil for Integrations Engineering Team, Customer Support Team, or Solutions Architects.

Skills and experience

• Able to use SQL and python proficiently and evangelize best practices. Spark experience a plus, SRE experience a plus.
• Dedication to code quality, testing, design processes, automation, and operational excellence.
• Motivated by helping others succeed and grow, seeing what you’ve built be immediately in use and making others lives easier, and driving business value.
• Be an active stakeholder in engineering tools discussions and help us build and design for future growth.
• Excellent communication and technical leadership skills.
• Strong problem-solving ability and ability to work with stakeholders to identify both high-tech and low-tech solutions and choose the solution appropriate to the problem.
• Ability to identify a problem or area of improvement, design, solution, and see it through to implementation.
