Aescape is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Behavior Planning who can provide technical and thought leadership, contribute creatively, and deliver production-ready code to create a one-of-a-kind massage therapy experience. Working alongside a cross-functional team of software engineers and roboticists, you will design and deploy custom recommendation systems and dynamic personalization algorithms that will enhance and optimize our massage content. What You’ll Do 

  • Drive advancements at the forefront of elegant human-robot interaction, providing thought leadership and creative problem solving amidst unsolved and ambiguous problems

  • Draw upon operations research, ML, optimization, and algorithms to elevate the personalized nature of our massage experience, enabling our systems to learn from and adapt to user requests and feedback

  • Extend upon our existing codebase and re-architect where necessary to allow for seamless deployment of user-focused, intuitive features

  • Define clear and actionable metrics to evaluate the user experience, utilizing an extensive mix of quantitative and qualitative data 

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of software engineers, roboticists, and domain experts to evolve and improve upon our massage content offerings

  • Design and leverage simulation to rapidly iterate and validate new algorithms

  • Lead design and code reviews that facilitate high-quality feedback and efficient execution


What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years developing and deploying production code

  • Proficiency in Python

  • BS in Computer Science or similar Engineering discipline

  • Depth and breadth of software development and algorithms experience

  • Comfortable architecting and implementing complex software systems / algorithms / data pipelines from scratch, with minimal supervision

  • Skilled in some area of data-driven algorithms, e.g. recommendation systems, ML, NLP, operations research, or optimization strategies

  • Senior/Staff-level understanding of data structures and algorithms

  • Deep understanding of software development best practices and validation lifecycles.

  • Comfortable working with rich datasets including user and time-series data

  • Experience mentoring other engineers

  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently, both verbally and in writing

Nice-to-have, but not required

  • 8+ years developing and deploying production code

  • Proficiency in C++ or Golang

  • MS in Computer Science, ML, Robotics, or similar

  • Strong product intuition with experience delivering software both in the cloud and on consumer facing devices

  • Skilled in machine learning and successfully deploying models

  • Experience designing and productionizing data pipelines

  • Experience with combinatorial optimization problems (e.g. knapsack, bin packing, etc.)
