Job Description

Job Summary:

AECOM is seeking a talented  a Principal Hydrology & Hydraulics Dam Safety Engineer, to join our East Region Dams group. This position will support a variety Dam Safety Engineering projects across the East Region. The successful candidate will join the ENR consistently ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm and have access to exciting career advancement opportunities.  This is a remote position, with a home base in one of our Upstate New York offices.   Due to the nature of work that will be required in this position U.S. Citizenship is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior technical support for projects including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams and other hydraulic structures.
  • Project management of multidisciplinary teams and the engagement of AECOM’s operations/finance teams including client management, contract management, planning and execution and financial management of dam engineering projects.
  • Lead teams performing and perform dam safety inspections, dam failure and hazard analyses, instrumentation and monitoring, functional exercises, spillway adequacy, determination of Probable Maximum Flood (PMF), hydraulic design, operational modeling, and preparation of inundation maps and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs).
  • Perform and/or facilitate Potential Failure Mode Analyses (PFMA).
  • Mentoring and technical development of junior staff, supporting them to achieve technical success.  The candidate should have a high level of technical expertise and experience in supervising and training staff in hydraulic and hydrologic analyses.
  • Responsible for quality control of project deliverables.  Serve as the Lead Verifier following AECOM Quality Control policies and procedures. 
  • Perform as Capture Manager for new opportunities including business development pre-positioning and the preparation of proposals.
  • Collaborate with technical leads in our Dam Engineering Practice with staff located throughout AECOM.
  • Client facing role with ownership and responsibility for the successful delivery of dam engineering projects and programs including business development for new and existing clients.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel for business development and project work as needed.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Dams Engineering with an emphasis in Hydrology and Hydraulics engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience with dams projects, including rehabilitation and/or new design and construction.
  • Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • New York State Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Approved Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Part 12 Independent Consultant.
  • Due to the nature of work that will be required in this position U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related degree.
  • Experience in relevant engineering software programs such as HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS.
  • Ability to complete the Managing AECOM Projects training and receive the AECOM Project Manager certification.
  • Experience in hydropower development feasibility studies and/or powerhouse design.
  • Strong desire to learn along with professional drive.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
