Job Description

What your new role will entail;

To help our clients meet ambitious Net Zero targets we have a unique and rare leadership role for an experienced water engineering professional with a specialism in carbon to play a crucial role in our established UK and Ireland Water team.

As our Engineering Lead, you will be responsible for technical leadership to reduce whole life carbon in our designs across our water sector project portfolio. Projects include waste and clean water treatment and pipeline projects for utility companies and flood risk management and environmental improvement schemes internationally. 

  • Accountability 1: Lead and upskill our teams to further reduce carbon in our designs, challenging the norm and bringing innovation in our delivery. 
  • Accountability 2: Using your engineering experience and the experience of fellow technical leaders, make a practical difference to the carbon impacts of our designs for our clients. Use your understanding of our client’s net zero ambitions to influence how we support them on their journey.
  • Accountability 3: Be conversant in all aspects of carbon affecting the water sector, including operational emissions, embodied carbon, renewables and bioresources, capitals approach, sequestration, and nature-based solutions.  
  • Accountability 4: Liaise closely with other discipline areas within AECOM sharing best practice across our business and end markets. Be active across our global technical practice network, bringing global best practice to our UK&I clients. 

Being part of the team;

  • You’ll be joining our 650 strong Water team in the UK and Ireland, part of our Environment Water and Energy business line ,delivering water engineering, water resources, asset management and advisory services to some of the highest profile projects and programmes in the UK water sector. You’ll get the opportunity to work for a variety of clients, including Caledonian Water Alliance (Scottish Water), Thames Water, Severn Trent Water, Uisce Eireann (formerly Irish Water), Wessex Water and the Environment Agency. 
  • We have a focus on business growth and skills development to deliver a strong and secured pipeline of work, so this role offers significant scope for personal development and a long and rewarding career in the AECOM business. You will be a key part of AECOMs ESG leadership group which links nationally and globally, promoting carbon reduction, nature based solutions, environmental and social benefits on projects. Your work as a leader will drive change and create sustainable project legacies.

Qualifications

Here’s what we will need from you; 

  • Water sector solution and design development. A technical understanding of whole life carbon and the practical opportunities / techniques to reduce carbon in project delivery.
  • An experienced Engineer able to lead the design of projects to deliver tangible carbon benefits.  
  • Water and wastewater infrastructure and treatment or flood & coastal project experience across project definition, feasibility, outline design, detailed design and construction. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team player and relationship builder, able to influence and drive change from traditional approaches to lower carbon solutions. 
  • Strong communication skills, able to present to clients, upskill teams and attend industry events.
