Description:

We are looking to add a Senior Mechanical Engineer to our growing team. This is a highly visible role that will provide leadership in the development and productization of 6K’s UniMelt system. Key responsibilities include the mechanical design of micron and nanometer size powder production-related equipment, as well as the design, development, and support of powder filtration and collection systems.

 

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop the subsystems to enable the manufacturing of robust, repeatable, automated systems for high volume manufacturing (utilizing in house design resources, outsourced engineering services and/or off-the-shelf solutions).
• Interface and assist the R&D design team in developing technology that is feasible, manufacturable, to be implemented at production scale.
• Lead the design and development efforts for product and/or process changes and enhancements which reduce defects, improve yields, and lower costs.
• Troubleshoot issues, determine root causes, design and implement corrective and preventative solutions.
• Manage multiple, changing priorities and efficiently make decisions in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Provide technical advice and mentoring to other mechanical engineers.

 

Tackle design challenges of a multi-disciplinary nature, including: 

• Mechanical and Pneumatic systems
• Gas and water flow systems
• Controls and Automation systems 
• BOM management
• Build test fixtures and jigs
• Change orders

• Build/install documentation
• Equipment maintenance procedures
• Testing/Validation protocols
• Documentation and creation of engineering business processes
• Manufacturability of components

 

Qualifications: 

• Five (5+) years of experience with a proven track record of tackling complex, multi-disciplinary problems. including those without prior knowledge.
• BSME at a minimum/ MSME preferred.
• Highly proficient in Mechanical Engineering First Principles.
• Fluency with SolidWorks required, basic Engineering calculations and FEA (preferred).
• Strong mechanical design background with an appreciation for full “stack” of development: idea generation, feasibility, detailed design, hands-on build & test.
• Self-directed learner who can own a project and drive to solution with limited outside direction.
• Possesses a “do-what-it-takes” attitude and willingness to work across multiple projects at once.
• Background in powder handling equipment is ideal – specifically feeding and collection of fine (1-100micron) powder.
