Description

About the role:

10x Genomics is a rapidly growing company in the life sciences, whose core technology combines advances in instrumentation, chemistry, biochemistry, microfluidics, and computational biology. 10x Genomics is looking for a Senior Staff System Architecture Engineer to join its Instrumentation Engineering team supporting the design and development of our current and future platforms.

A competitive candidate must have deep knowledge and demonstrated hands-on experience in System and Electrical Engineering of automation and life sciences product development; analog and digital board design from conception to production; and electrical architecture design of instruments, which includes motion, fluid handling, sensor and pressure controls.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide hands-on leadership of individual projects from conception to production.
  • Define system and subsystem architectures, and approaches to meet project and program design goals.
  • Develop key relationships with internal design teams, as well as subcontractors, to plan comprehensive product strategies based on future technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members (mechanical, optical, firmware, software, microfluidics, and quality) to solve complex, system-level designs and challenges.
  • Contribute to the assembly, bring-up, and troubleshooting of the different prototypes.
  • Ensure that the product meets or exceeds the requirements of both the customer and internal.
  • Work with a broader team to drive toward robust and cost-effective solutions.
  • Leverage deep understanding of signal integrity to ensure proper layout and grounding techniques that allow for the coexistence of high-speed digital signaling with high current, high slew rate, precision analog circuitry.
  • Act as a technical and market expert with engineering teams and customers to achieve product goals.
  • Actively contribute to low-level firmware and embedded software architecture.
  • Support compliance certifications, domestic and international.
  • Communicate project status across-functional organization and management levels.

To be successful, you will need:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with minimum 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong technical experience in developing and implementing complex system architecture and electrical designs with minimum to no supervision.
  • Demonstrated history in successfully defining and implementing complex electrical architecture to simultaneously manage illumination, communication, and video link across several sub-assemblies.
  • Solid understanding of overall system-level design approaches.
  • Deep knowledge of key interfaces/subsystems (e.g., microprocessors, memory, USB, Ethernet, i2c, CAN, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth) and exceptional board bring up and debugging skills.
  • Knowledge of motion control, LED and laser drivers, camera imaging, and monitoring devices.
  • Experience with a variety of sensor technologies (e.g., thermal, optical, position, pressure, and flow).
  • Hands-on experience with PCB assembly and testing using various lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers.
  • Practical knowledge of embedded FW/SW for microcontrollers.
  • Knowledge of product development cycles and its documentation.
  • Experience running designs through DfX reviews.
  • Experience designing/driving development and manufacturing test plans.
  • Solid knowledge of compliance standards, EMC, and safety certifications.
  • Experience with mitigating ESD, EMI, noise, and distortion to electrical signals in complex systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of FPGA macro architecture for data and control processing pipelines as well as FPGA sizing and selection.
  • Strong desire and capacity to work in a fast-paced development environment; you must be ready to produce high-quality work on short product deadlines.
